The methods of dieticians from existing technologies and current practices in the market (classical diet applications and AI-based applications) are rather cumbersome and useless. The need to add a third option to the dietitian and dietician options was born. This will be the InDiet application based on machine learning and gamification. With the help of chatbot users will be able to get constant support from the system: they can get answers to questions like “can I eat walnut instead of almond?”, “what is the calorie of a portion of cooked beans?”. Additionally, we believe applying gamification concept to diet domain is an effective approach since it helps users to keep up with their diet plan and thus reaching their goals easily. As a result of our surveys and Concierge MVP we learned that users need constant motivational support while dieting. Unfortunately this support can not be provided by their dieticians all the time. With InDiet users will be able to follow other users in their diet journey, challenge friends in reaching their goals and earning real time perks that support a healthy lifestyle .
By taking advantage of human-centered design, gamification and 7/24 chatbot support users will keep their motivation high and successfully complete their diet with fun.
Following a diet for a considerable time is a behavioral problem that requires timely incentives. Deniz and her team is addressing the issues of proper diet keeping through their app. They are also making great use of ML models to create different pathways of diet keeping. Although its a crowded market I think their app will have significant advantage in customer adoption.
I worked for 5 weeks with the team at Odtu Teknokent's T-Bigg Tubitak program as a mentor.
What I still remember and talk about the team is that they were very coachable and fast. I crafted them a wizard of oz kind of an mvp to test their idea. They made it live next week and started solving customers problems. They learned a lot and iterated their idea.
