During my last year of engineering school, I design and built a prototype of a modular smart infant monitoring device capable of analyzing blood oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, and sleeping habits. The sensor was imbedded into an infants beanie/hat/helmet and through the use of refractive pulse oximetry, it would extract data in regards to the infants oxygen levels and heart rate; sleeping trends were captured with the use of a triple-axis accelerometer. The device would then communicate to the parent's mobile device via WiFi and a mobile application. Through this mobile application parents got real-time feedback of their child on top of the trend analysis our machine learning suite compiled for them. It was meant to be an aid for the baby's transition from the womb into the parents' daily life.
