Across Tanzania it is estimated that 60% of the population have no access to quality sanitation and this is due to lack of access to affordable sanitation due to costs of construction, high water table and de-sludging expenses.
The health burden due to poor sanitation and hygiene is significant, Diarrhea in the preceding two weeks is reported on average in 15% of children less than 5 years of age results in 9% of all mortality for this group of age .Cholera and typhoid is endemic and outbreak in some area of Tanzania and outbreak are common
Meanwhile In urban area lack of solid waste collection and poor drainage combined with extensive use of pit latrines make for very poor hygiene conditions for instance Plastic waste is the biggest problem in urban area here in Tanzania more than 4,600 tons of plastic waste are generated everyday in one city (Dar es salaam) these plastic waste disrupt the environmental Eco-system, blocks water ways which leads to outbreak diseases and flooding

Arena Recycling Industry is a social business that committed to offer Eco-friendly building materials made from recycled plastic waste for construction of pit latrines, water tanks and septic tanks, we ventured a polymer-sand technology to combat the environmental mitigation caused by plastic pollution while fabricating building materials to alleviate the poor sanitation and hygiene
The process involve collection of plastic waste by organizing campaign for beach clean-up around marine areas, we educate and promote the change of behavior in waste disposal, by involving community recyclers into logistic and improve their income by repeatedly buying collected plastic waste, the collected plastic waste is then sorted according to plastic waste composition (density), recycled and mixed with sand to produce strong bricks.
The whole process is path by The Polymer-sand Technology that made in the process of the uniform mixture of the main components (filler + polymer as a binder) observing the set temperature, which results in coating of each particle of the filler with polymeric binder. Being molded and hardened the polymer-sand mass forms a high strength homogeneous solid compound (Eco-Bricks)
Polymer-sand technology is analogous technology to plastic-to-Eco-friendly building materials. Its aim at transforming post-consumer and post-industrial plastic waste into useful non-plastic products (i.e. Eco bricks and pavement blocks).
We are using our Eco-bricks for construction of toilets

Recommendations

YES.I am pleased and honored to write a letter of recommendation for Hellena Sailas to this opportunity
Hellena’s is a full-time entrepreneur, Environmental Activist, founder and Director General at Arena Recycling, a company that deals with plastic waste management by recycling plastic waste into Eco-friendly building materials for contractions.
I have known Hellena’s for the past 2 years when she got chance to exhibit her innovative business of recycling plastic waste to alternative building materials to the Environmental Congress that was conducted by the former Minister of state in the Vice President and Environment and I was invited as a guest speaker.
I was thoroughly impressed by Hellena’s commitment and dedication to the environment that fosters a sustainable future and lead to social and economic improvements. Since then I have been supporting her by offering mentoring support in order to help her business to grow.
