In accordance with the latest research at the renewable energy storage lab (RESL) at Dalhousie University, these storage systems will be composed of mixed lithium-ion batteries, consisting of both new batteries and re-purposed batteries from electric vehicles (EVs), giving it unique capability but also posing new challenges. The development of new systems composed of such mixed battery arrays have the potential to reduce overall cost , increase utilization of materials/systems, and cause a net reduction in the greenhouse gas (GHG) responsibility of the electricity system.

Recently develop skills and differential voltage techniques will give a noninvasive method to monitor the degradation pathways of the batteries in real-time. This will allow us to predict and mitigate the degradation of our system, thus extending its useful lifetime.

Using continuous learning techniques, a neural network will be created which will have the ability to predict the customers electricity consumption, with the added ability to aggregate multiple input loads. The specific control algorithms will be developed to meet varied customers’ needs for resiliency and peak shaving energy services. New techniques for software-as-a-service subscriptions and operation and maintenance contracts will generate recurring revenue.
