Cohort Program
Roughly twenty Cohort startups are selected every six months to receive a $105,000 investment from the Berkeley SkyDeck Fund. The program is open for both University of California Founders, as well as Non-US founders who are looking to build a presence in Silicon Valley. Learn more at: skydeck.berkeley.edu/apply/.
Most successful applicants have already raised previous funding from angels, grants, and VCs, but it is not required to be a part of the program. Many successful applicants have some kind of customer traction (users/revenue), but that it is not required to apply either.
Companies who have graduated from the SkyDeck program have a much higher probability of receiving institutional funding than the industry average.
Cohort startups are paired with Key Advisors, go through the six-month BAM Program, attend weekly required events, and receive guided access to the SkyDeck community. Startups present at SkyDeck’s 600+ attendee Demo Day.
SkyDeck works hand-in-hand to help Cohort companies with:
- Product Strategy: defining/refining the product design and go-to-market for a capital-efficient growth strategy with meaningful competitive moats
- Team-building: identifying and recommending key candidates for advisory boards and early hires
- Customer Introductions: using the UC Berkeley alumni network, SkyDeck can make introductions to influencers and key buyers in just about any industry in Silicon Valley
- Connect with Silicon Valley's top institutional investors and raise follow-on funding.
REMOTE PROGRAM DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. Starting with our Spring 2020 Cohort, SkyDeck has migrated its program temporarily to remote programming in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, our program remains as robust as ever and we continue to offer all services and benefits, with startups participating remotely from all over the world. Our startups continue to have the same high number of opportunities to network with investors, advisors, and to build community with fellow startups during this period. SkyDeck’s program has even expanded during this period, with more workshops, Advisors, and connections to UC Berkeley talent and alumni.
