Biophilica is flexible and rigid materials produced from plant waste – categorized as EWC code 20 02 01, Biodegradable Waste from Gardens and Parks. Waste facilities define it as Green Waste – safe for composting. Biophilica materials are subsequently both biodegradable and recyclable as green waste. The production process is local, non-toxic, low cost, scalable to urban and rural locations, and is plant species independent, allowing for global applications. The materials can be treated and machined: sanded, coated, pigmented, cut & sewn, CNCed, laser cut, heat pressed and extruded. They can be made water resistant and flame retardant.

Biophilica aims to disrupt the global materials supply chain by enabling local and sustainable production of a variety of material types and subsequently consumer products, including apparel, shoes and accessories, bio plant pots, home goods, packaging, disposables, furniture, auto interiors etc. A focus on total locality (sourcing, production, and manufacturing) enables a dramatic reduction in the overall impact of the materials life cycle from start to finish – meaning a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
