Dear Lighthouse Labs -
I would like to recommend Capitalize Energy for the Lighthouse Labs incubator. As the head of the property assessment group for EFI Global, a global engineering firm, I am well aware of the need for a service that consolidates the many elements necessary to make a building retrofit possible. For the past few years, I have been collaborating with Abacus in the development of an innovative model for the energy upgrade process due to lack of consistency and quality of current programs and services. From my experience, it has been difficult for property owners to fully appreciate the value of retrofitting their buildings for a myriad of reasons. Often, a client will ask me for a source where they can find everything they need to make the decisions - from upgrading their property from finding a reputable contractor to evaluating the quality or reliability of a specific technology. I am excited in the prospect of a technology like this coming to fruition.
I'm writing today in support of Capitalize Energy's application for your accelerator program this fall. I have worked with the team from Capitalize Energy's sister company, Abacus Property Solutions in our efforts to promote PACE financing in Virginia. As a practitioner in the energy efficiency upgrade arena myself, I have firsthand knowledge of the frustration Abby and Colin are working to correct. I am the Executive Director of a non-profit in Richmond, the Richmond Region Energy Alliance (www.rrea-va.org) that is many ways a smaller scale, localized version of what Capitalize Energy is aiming to be.
In our case, we are focused on homeowners in the Richmond area. A site on the scale that Capitalize Energy envisions would open up the opportunity to not only home and other property owners, but also to a large network of suppliers, contractors, and financial specialists, nationwide.
