OUR MISSION

Coral Vita works to restore our world's degraded and damaged reefs. By growing resilient corals and transplanting them into threatened reefs, we help to preserve the ocean's biodiversity. In turn, we protect the prosperity and health of communities, industries, and nations that depend on reefs for coastal protection, food, and revenue.

OUR APPROACH

Corals raised are native to a client's reef, shown to be more resilient to changing conditions such as warming and acidifying oceans, and are critical to the functionality of the reef. The corals grown are used to revive and protect reef ecosystems, and our regional farming model allows us to service the range of stakeholders reliant on healthy reefs. With global reef degradation already happening and widespread, people are now able to preserve these valuable resources for both present and future needs.

Coral Vita grows corals in land-based nurseries, which provides several advantages for the company and reef stakeholders.

Unlike ocean-based projects, land-based coral farming can use recent techniques that allow for the faster growth of a more diverse array of corals. By using 'microfragmenting,' a process pioneered by our Technical Advisor Dr. David Vaughan, we can accelerate coral growth up to 50x. Many of the species that serve as critical building blocks for reefs (such as Brain or Great Star corals) grow too slowly to be feasible for restoration projects using ocean-based nurseries. Now, Coral Vita can grow these corals in months rather than decades. Land-based farming also enables us to use 'assisted evolution' techniques to improve coral resiliency to threats such as warming ocean temperatures.

OUR ULTIMATE VISION

At Coral Vita, we are creating a global network of land-based coral farming facilities. Doing so will enable stakeholders around the world to have a ready-to-install supply of corals for all restoration needs. We aim to provide a means to sustain vital resources in spite of the ecological danger our planet faces. Our restoration method is a solution for stakeholders threatened by continuing global coral degradation. Purchasing restored reefs from Coral Vita gives them the opportunity to continuing deriving critical benefits and services. Coral Vita improves the livelihoods of those who depend on coral and aspires to enable a new generation to protect these reefs that will sustain their communities and nations well into the future.
