Courtsdesk is a big data legal reporting and research service, named last year as the European Startup of the Year.
We are building tools to improve reporting of justice systems anywhere in the world, to deliver actionable insight for legal and financial services professionals and state organisations.
In 2017 we completed the Techstars Barclays accelerator in London, one of 10 companies accepted out of 600 applicants. We are now working with Barclays to show how legal data is an under-utilised resource in FinTech. We are also graduates of the Accenture FinTech Innovation Lab 2016
The company operates in two markets: selling content and software to news media outlets, and as a digital service selling legal data to banks, insurance companies, law firms, due-diligence and financial services firms, academia and state agencies.

The Courtsdesk USP is that we archive details of cases from lower courts – accounting for 98% of all activity in the Irish and UK legal systems, for which no publicly available archive exists for business or academic users. Our model is globally scalable - it is equally applicable to courts in Central Africa as it is in those in London. This is achieved through a combination of digitally automated aggregation of court reports (where available) and the application of data analytics and social media technology to traditional reporting by news organisations or Courtsdesk's own staff reporters.
We have already proved the market for our approach to legal data in ireland where we have most of the top 10 law firms (e.g. McCann Fitzgerald, A&L Goodbody) as clients, and almost all of the national newspapers including the Sunday Times and Irish Times.
Use cases include cross-reference and relationship mapping with company and property data, anti-money laundering checks, insurance fraud, and the ability to dashboard and report on large statistical litigation data, such as all cases involving a bank, insurer or large law firm.
Our next stage of development (aside from U.K. data) is contemporaneous Court reporting - live coverage - of every court in the UK and Ireland, for news and legal clients, with filtered alerts and an archive for due-diligence and AML.
Evidence of market validation is abundant in the USA, where legal data has been available for decades – legal data services for the lower courts are a multi-billion dollar market. Courtsdesk is creating this market in the EU for the first time, launching in the UK in 2018.
