Melissa is a dance artist, yoga teacher, entrepreneur, and activist making ripples of change through her social impact business, Cultural Fabric. As a connective force in the Boston community, Melissa is animating the mission of Cultural Fabric all throughout the city - creating safe space to elevate consciousness, promote racial healing, and catalyze social transformation. At the heart of her vision is the holistic healing and restoration of the humanity of Black people and other historically marginalized groups of people - believing that when the most marginalized among us is healed, we will all be healed.

Melissa intentionally supports people in injecting healing into individual and organizational action. For Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our communities she and her team facilitate instruction in dance, yoga, or other mindfulness-based healing sessions to keep BIPOC in touch with these ancestral technologies. For organizations in primarily higher education and healthcare, she injects healing into the business concept of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to support people in shifting into the truth that the social transformation we seek must begin inside our individual selves first. Focusing on equity and inclusion, she sees it for the social justice work that it is and teaches how to extend that shift of perspective to the relational work of racial healing. With a background in the arts, yoga, education, grassroots organizing, management, and organizational development, she has distilled approaches and practices into a mindfulness-based methodology that transmits power, depth, and ease.

Within organizations this takes the form of staff workshops or retreats, thought partnership, equity strategy coaching, and facilitation training. Melissa and her team lead the Healing Arts Institute (HEAI), a critical race inquiry and healing incubator program, where community/business leaders and front line workers receive mindfulness-based facilitation training grounded in social justice and then formulate their own mindful approaches to growth opportunities in their workplaces. She will be enrolling the fourth HEAI cohort in Spring 2020. Her advocacy extends to paving the pathway for other arts and wellness practitioners to be highly valued for their skills within organizations that are waking up to the need for mindfulness-based work that brings consciousness to issues that go beyond self-care and affect our collective well-being.
