We are leveraging clean energy and mobile technologies to bridge the financial and digital divide that prevents underserved population from accessing basic life services.

From growth to Maturity, the mobile markets have an increasing impact on economics and communities. Information and communication technology (ICT) drives economic growth and powers productivity gains. By the end of the next decade, growth, productivity gains, and human development will be determined by levels of integration into the digital economy.

In Nigeria, if you look at users aged 16 to 64, 99.5% own a mobile phone. This booming mobile adoption contrasts with the lack of basic energy and banking infrastructures especially in rural off-grid communities: Nigeria has over 50 million living in rural off-grid communities without reliable access to electricity, and over 60 million are yet to have a bank account. This divide limits workforce development and advancement potential in rural areas and in low-income areas of cities.

The reach of the mobile industry’s infrastructure, the growing traction of mobile financial services and the increasing opportunity for machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity, offers innovative pathways for us to achieve reliable energy access, digital connectivity and financial inclusion for underserved communities.

So there are multiple paths by which greater access to energy, mobile internet, and mobile phone adoption can impact financial inclusion by helping people gain new skills and knowledge.

Our Lighthouse project is aimed at stimulating economic activities by providing access to low-cost clean energy services for powering digital communication & financial services in rural off-grid communities through a last-mile agent network.

LIGHTHOUSES are solar-powered business hubs where smart battery packs with remote monitoring and control system are used to provide access to low-cost clean energy as a service, for powering digital communication & financial services to mobile phone users without a reliable source of energy in rural off-grid underserved communities.
