Elemeth Farms Limited's goal is to promote women and youth entrepreneurship and leadership, and improve their participation in the agriculture sector in Lusaka and Central provinces, Zambia. This interventions will help women and the youth to move out of poverty through increased productivity and equitable access to resources through an integrated approach which includes capacity building and, farm setup, seed support, out-grower schemes promoting market linkages and extension services to ensure sustainability. The expected outcomes to these interventions include; (i) Increased agriculture production among women and youth (ii) improved market linkage and value chain for farm produce; (iii) improved quality of farm produce; (iv) improved average household income; (v) employment for direct beneficiaries and indirect beneficiaries’ farmers and entrepreneurs; and (vi) increased per capita household farm produce consumption. Additionally, as Elemeth Farms, we aim to work with the private sector to address the shortage of extension workers by designating and training women leader farmers to reach out to greater numbers of smallholder farmers, especially women and the youth. This is aimed at taking agriculture information services to the nearest point as possible so as to ensure accessibility by every possible farmer within the cluster. The model also in its quest to completely bridge up the knowledge gap, by building resilience and sustainability of farming systems through interventions for water security, soil conservation and management, integration of solar and other energy efficient practices in intensive agriculture value chains and for knowledge management.
