With a vision of comfortable highway travel for all, elu is an initiative to create a self-sustainable branded toilet chain aggregator platform across the country.
Our mission is to create and maintain sustainable highway toilets for travellers along national highways of India, which would be mapped on existing navigation systems, e.g. Google Maps and Apple Maps.

Each unit will have two toilets in limited space along with a Pantry and a recreational place. The toilets will be developed by up-cycling the old, unusable and abandoned government buses, ambulances and abandoned shipping containers and other scrap material thereby justifying the resources.

These rest stops will have multiple facilities such as improved and hygienic toilets with washroom facilities, a smart pantry for vending snacks and permitted beverages, Mobile phones & EV-charging station and certain social and recreational facilities in a limited space. The toilets section will have two separate washrooms for men and women commuters with a small dressing cum baby care section developed from the abandoned ambulances. The proposed highway rest stops will have broadly three functioning dimensions. They are – Sanitary service, marketing and linkage section and resource mobilisation for self sustainability.

Recommendations

It is my pleasure to offer my strongest and most sincere support to Diptendu Roy in his application to toilet board accelerator program. I have closely worked and monitored his personal as well as professional progress over the course of years. Thus i believe I am thus well-positioned to attest to both Diptendu’s character and the high standard, professionalism and quality of his work.

For context, I have a Non Governmental Organization, promoting citizen journalism in central India. We work with researchers, activist and administration officials to create media delivery and data collection platforms for areas with limited or zero internet access/cellular connectivity.

I believe Diptendu would be a great asset to any team primarily due to his drive and self-sufficiency in completing difficult tasks – he is unusually good at figuring out how things work and requires relatively little hand-holding or guidance.

Diptendu Roy was a fellow in an accelerator that PeaceTech Lab ran in India in 2018 and 2019 that was focused on youth entrepreneurship. I was highly impressed with Mr. Roy's passion and his reasons for starting his company Elu. I believe that his idea could help women throughout India find safe and clean restrooms while traveling and this could improve the economy in many of these places. Here is more information on the program where we selected Mr. Roy.

PeaceTech Lab partnered with U.S. Consulate Mumbai, the Government of Chhattisgarh, 36 Inc., and the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), a New-Delhi-based organization on the Social Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program. The consortium partnered on the program in the conflict-stricken state of Chhattisgarh, India between July 2018 and March 2019. The program supported young entrepreneurs in Chhattisgarh 2-3 days each month to find ways to use entrepreneurship and social enterprise to promote peacebuilding and social good.
