Esoterix develop the technology required to find demand for and deliver cost-effective first/last mile shared transport services.

Finding Demand
Esoterix mines data from multiple sources to discover the where people want to travel to and from. It then calculates potential routes and tests them in a virtual environment, which uses an underlying human behaviour model to assess whether those routes are likely to be sufficiently cheap, quick and convenient for a given demographic - before putting vehicles on the road.

Routes focus on real-time integration with existing public transport networks, in particular rail but also other bus services, to extend their reach and provide the first/last mile support which often makes the difference between someone travelling sustainably and getting in their car.

Delivery
In tandem, Esoterix develops the delivery systems needed for these services, including user interfaces and routing. Esoterix is working with partners to integrate smart ticketing and vehicle tracking, to keep the passenger informed and the experience easy.

Business models
Esoterix uses a holistic business model to ensure services are competitively priced at the point of delivery.

Projects
Esoterix led the MODLE (Mobility on Demand Laboratory Environment), a £2m project sponsored by Innovate UK, to experimentally implement affordable, direct, spontaneously available, sustainable transport options for local journeys in North and West Bristol. The project partners include the West of England local authorities, First Group, the University of the West of England and the Transport Systems Catapult. Esoterix ran several on the ground trials as part of this project.

Services
Esoterix manages the SevernNet Buzz - a smart commuting service for shift workers travelling to a remote industrial area.
It also runs a shared transport service, WeGoBristol in electric vehicles as part of Bristol’s Horizon 2020 REPLICATE lighthouse project.
