FishFrom has a ‘spade-ready’ planning consented 18-acre site to build a 3,600-tonne land-based salmon farm on the west coast of Scotland. Phase 1 of this development is the construction of a small-scale Salmon RAS facility producing 2 batches of salmon to prove the prototype. This will lead to the development of Phase 2, the construction of the 3,600-tonne facility and further large-scale RAS farms in the UK and overseas.
FishFrom will:
• develop existing infrastructure and services
• stock smolt into the farm’s seawater tanks
• manage feed trials to promote growth and fish flavour whilst reducing waste
• continually measure life support systems and water quality to ensure best welfare and product quality
• valorise waste streams including uneaten feed and faeces for additional revenue
• improve the harvesting techniques of this technology
• trial reusable bulk packaging and chilling media to reduce energy consumption

FishFrom will create opportunity to develop useful tools, data, systems and equipment to promote food safety and security, create a circular economy with low environmental impact and reduce energy use. It will develop opportunities to create larger onshore farms which will reduce production cost per kg and secure supply lines of high-quality product.
