Flock is an AI company out of Imperial College London and Cambridge University. We are building a Big-Data driven risk analysis software to make drones safe and smart in cities.

The drone industry is growing exponentially, as are the use-cases for commercial drones; over $10Bn worth of drone hardware will be undertaking more than $127Bn of economic activity per year by 2020; large players (Amazon, DHL) are now invested in the industry. Drones bring with them a degree of risk, however, including falling out of the sky into congested areas, environmental disturbance, and privacy concerns in public spaces. It is difficult and expensive to insure drones, and operators have to worry about the unknown risks of their flights.

Flock’s AI platform aggregates Big Data to identify and quantify the risks of drone flights. We partner with third parties (such as Ordnance Survey and global Telecoms companies) to gain access to datasets that allow us to track and analyse the real-time position of people, vehicles, buildings and structures, weather systems, and more (all of which are elements of flight risk). Flock's algorithms were developed alongside global experts in drone risk at the Data Science Institute of Imperial College London; they convert raw datasets into risk profiles for any given flight path.

Flock’s go-to-market product is an insurtech platform that facilitates intelligent drone insurance (a $2Bn market by 2020). Flock's insurtech platform for operators displays a real-time graphical representation of risk: population density, traffic conditions, weather conditions and more are represented in a simple GUI, allowing for operators to plan their routes and intelligently schedule flights. Flock's risk analytics tool provides a quantified measurement of risk for any flight path (or operator), facilitating intelligent premium generation for our commercial partners (large international insurers).

Flock has received significant grant funding from Innovate UK (> £130,000) and Ordnance Survey, is in advanced talks with large international insurers and is currently designing go-to-market pilot programs. Flock's seed round was funded by a combination of Venture Capital and an expert angel syndicate.
Flock’s vision is to become an autonomous drone guidance software, automatically calculating the safest possible flight paths for drones. As the industry expands, Flock will become the de-facto safety standard for drones and autonomous robots globally.
