Artificial intelligence (AI) powered recipe suggestions enable the app to understand users’ tastes and provide customized recipes. As shoppers engage more with foodspace, the app develops a better understanding of what they enjoy eating, creating a cycle of positive feedback between the platform and the user.
foodspace delivers a simple solution to a complex issue. By incorporating a consumer-focused approach, the app recognizes that broader goals of reducing food waste can be more easily achieved when coupled with tools that make users’ everyday lives simpler. While many people do not have the time or resources to concentrate explicitly on reducing their food waste, foodspace helps make food consciousness easy and financially beneficial. Inventory Manager is also linked to Shopping List, allowing for the seamless, real-time updating of inventory. Inventory Manager also estimates and tracks food items’ expiration dates, helping to ensure that they are used in a timely manner and allowing users to minimize their in-home food waste. Imagine your Salmon going bad in a few days, we will help consumers find recipes that meet needs to reduce foodwaste.

IKEA will be able to leverage their grocery store capabilities and help their consumers manage their food journey. We will also be able to understand the traffic of consumers before and after purchases.

For the past several months I have acted as an advisor to Foodspace. I initially was introduced to the company through the Cleantech Open Northeast program. In my time working with Foodspace, I have seen two very bright entrepreneurs willing to consider any problem, take any piece of advice, and look under every rock, in search of solutions to the modern day food journey. From the outset, Ayo and Dan impressed me with their careful attention to scaling their product--seeking early sources of revenue in order to prove their model, while focusing long term on sustainable revenue structures--and learning to walk before they try to run. They are at the very early stages of a long, successful journey.

Ayo Oshinaike of Foodspace participated in and graduated from the 2018 Cleantech Open accelerator. Foodspace started the program as a development team, because the solution was not as mature as the other startups in the cohort. After a few months, an evaluation team voted to promote Foodspace to be a full member of the cohort. He had progressed sufficiently. From the beginning, Ayo was very persistent. He was diligent about completing his materials on time, attending and participating actively in all of the Business Clinics that were offered, and demonstrating his dedication to the curriculum and to his business. His lead mentor believed his business case was compelling, and thought he was realistic about what he needed to work on. After the promotion, he worked with 3 additional mentors and graduated in good standing with the rest of the cohort. Ayo is always cheerful and hard working.
