Using FoodTrail, every actor in the food supply chain can implement or support sustainable food production practices. For example, companies can take steps to significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, shifting their food sources away from recently deforested regions and promoting the use of rehabilitated land. Another option would be to use local supply chains to source food.

Within the transportation component of the food supply chain, port, road and air transport firms could mark sustainable fuel or low emission fuel for their use.

Use of organic materials in food production and food production without using harmful pesticides, optimising water usage, fertiliser usage are mapped and available for the consumers of the food.

From the human angle, the labour used and the type of labour could also be included in the information.

In our research of the market and discussions with stakeholders of the food supply chain, we see and interest for our food provenance solution. Consumers have increased appetite for healthy, ethically sourced and chemical free food. Further some customers are interested in sustainable food especially from the developed markets.
