GiveUp is a movement to help people make generosity a part of their everyday lives. The first phase of this movement will be accomplished through the use of a smart phone app that prompts people to be generous instead of or in addition to consuming.
We believe that people want to be generous, they want to make a difference in the world, however there are not many easy ways for them to do so on an every day basis. The Give Up app will change this and in doing so will raise millions for non-profit organizations. Here is why Give Up is necessary:

The amount given to non-profits through this app could equal millions of more dollars that would not have normally been given.
It is estimated that 1/3 of the US population consider themselves generous. They already give to charity and feel good about their benevolence. They are the primary target audience who will begin to make generosity a part of their everyday lives. They will be motivated to download the app because they will be asked by an organization in which they are currently giving. Once they download the app and set it up with their financial information they will be gently prompted to give $1 whenever they are at common fast food, coffee, or other entertainment locations. This will be done by utilizing the already existent GPS location software that is present on almost every smart phone. The person will then be given the opportunity to approve or decline the donation.
There will also be opportunities for the app to send out emergency donation requests for tragedies that occur such as hurricane or earthquake relief. Giving people who would already have a desire to help the ability to do so in an instant and feel good about the fact that they are doing something to make a difference.
