Shopping for weddings and other special occasions in India is broken. There are no major brands (except Manyavar in menswear), and 85% of the market is small designers and boutiques - highly fragmented. This leads to significant challenges for customers in Discovery as well as Customer Experience. These 2 issues are what we want to solve.

Women enjoy window shopping from different designers. The average wedding purchase involves going to 20-25 different places. However, locality / city heavily restricts this (esp in tier 2/3 towns), and people don't know where to go, and what is the right market price for that outfit.

Even after figuring out where to go, dealing with small vendors is a challenge. On-time delivery, quality control and payment protection are major issues. Social media is full of complaints against small designers and boutique stores. They are good at designing and making clothes, but not at running a professional customer focused business.

Our goal is to combine the discovery of local designers with the trust, quality and customer experience of a brand to provide a hassle free shopping experience.

Traditional Fashion E-Commerce players have been unable to crack this market, as their models are not suited for made-to-order products.

The main issues with shopping online in this space are - Fitting and Quality of fabric used. We have designed solutions for these, and provide a 100% fitting guarantee to the customer. We do this by a proprietary video based tech product, Virtual Tailor - that enables taking measurements from customers in an easy and hassle free manner. We also are tying up with local tailors to provide home measurement and alterations for after sales support.

We also impose strict quality regulations, and have designed a unique 16 point quality control process that we impose on all designers, thus creating standardization of fabrics and processes used when manufacturing.

By a combination of a technology enabled, differentiated product, and in a large, high margin market, we have been able to grow organically and profitably, while maintaining a lean operating structure (6 member team), and not resorting to deep discounts unlike most e-commerce players.

I have worked closely with both Kartik and Nitish, two of the founders of Giltstreet.com. I would highly recommend them as I strongly believe they are not only extremely capable but also highly commited and diligent. On projects that they have worked with me, I have clearly noticed their strong performance. Both Kartik and Nitish are passionate about the Giltstreet venture and I have had multiple rounds of conversation with them while they've been putting their plans together. I am confident that Kartik and Nitish will give it all to make Giltstreet a success. I wish them all the very best.

Glitstreet is opening up the web as a viable channel for the "long tail" of the apparel segment. By bringing independent designers and small retailers online, powering local discovery and demand generation they are also bringing a new, carefully curated range of products for internet consumers. The future of ecommerce is in empowering hyper-local retail - the Glitstreet team is a team of young and passionate entrepreneurs who will be at the front of this movement. Wish you guys all the best.

Over the years, I have seen many friends, former colleagues and acquaintances starting up – some successfully, and others not quite. I believe there are two critical elements for a startup to be successful – a commercially viable idea, and a great set of people to take it to full potential. The latter can actually make an average idea successful through sheer resourcefulness.

I don’t really understand the space that Glitstreet is in – and cannot comment on whether the idea is great. But I do know two of the individuals in the startup team – Nitish and Kartik, and have worked with them at Bain. They are extremely intelligent, energetic, industrious, ethical, driven and business-savvy individuals - and are open to feedback and guidance. Knowing them, I would be happy to recommend their startup for any startup accelerator program. If they receive the right guidance and support, I am sure they will eventually succeed and make people who place their trust in them proud.
