High quality nutrients like fats and proteins need not be lost to the rubbish heap; not when local farmers lack affordable animal feed. GrubTubs collects leftovers from restaurants and drops it off at various farms. Each farm is equipped with a colony of hungry grubs that grow fat and happy devouring these leftovers. Once fully grown, Farmers harvest the grubs and feed them to chickens. Not only do chickens love eating grubs, it's the staple food of their natural diet and a fantastic recipe for healthy eggs. Community farmers built the Farm-to-Table movement to increase access to fresh, local food. At GrubTubs, we believe in challenging the status quo, we work towards a better future for our planet, and all of its inhabitants. GrubTubs, INC is a science based bio-tech business that is pioneering the design, development and manufacturing of a sustainable insect-based production system to make local animal feed ingredients from organic wastes. Given enough food waste, one commercial BioPod™ produces as much protein from insects as an entire acre of land in California planted with soy. With these modular insect farms installed on various farms around Austin, we will disrupt a 20 million dollar food waste hauling market while providing cheap, locally produced animal feed for poultry, fish and pigs; making Austin more self-reliant.

GrubTubs recognizes that current feed regulations do not allow us to sell an insect based animal feed bagged to farmers, however there is no regulation prohibiting us from empowering farmers to make their own insect based feed on their own farm.

We have obtained a private recycling license with the city of Austin and have begun to earn revenue from food recycling services in 2016, and our farmers will produce animal feed by 2017. We have obtained 5 acres of Agriculture land in Austin City Limits for a Pilot with 20 restaurants and 1 Poultry Farmer. We have completed a USDA SBIR Phase 1 and are applying for Phase 2 ($600,000). We are part of the go-to-market cohort for the Energy Excelerator out of Hawai’i. We wo
