In 2018 according to JAMB, there are over 1.9 million students studying in various higher institutions across Nigeria, due to the increase of students into the university, the universities have found it difficult to provide enough accommodation to cater to the excess students thereby forcing students to look for accommodation solutions off-campus, leading to about 70% of the students residing off-campus.
With the increase in population annually, this has lead to more hostels being built off-campus to cater to the students, thereby making it very difficult for students to find the best accommodation that fit their personal criteria.
In a quest to solve this issue, local agents formed to help relieve the burden from the students at a fixed cost by looking for the hostels manually.
However, this didn't successfully solve the problem but instead created some new problems.

1: After an agent successfully finds a hostel, the student still needs to physically inspect the hostel, which is indeed very stressful for the student.
2: Since there is no regulating body coordinating the agents, so many fraudsters pose as local agents duping the students of their hostel dues.
3: The agents charge the students a lot for their services.
4: The prices of the hostels are higher due to the added cost in form of "hostel management" by the hostel providers.
5: Most students need a roommate to share the cost of living and finding the perfect roommate is very difficult.
6: Making payments for a room is not convenient.

We also observed that the hostel providers find it difficult to:
1: Rent out their hostels, due to the increased competition and low visibility in this sector.
2: A lot of them pay money in form of commission to local agents to help them sell their hostels faster.
3: Many of the hostels are poorly managed and finding a trustworthy person to manage those hostels is really rare.

So we created a company that helps the hostel owners effectively manage their hostels and conveniently rent out those hostels to students, thereby helping both parties to:
1: Save time.
2: Save money.
3: Provides a more secure, organized and easy-to-use platform for the entire renting process.

With Hostel.ng everybody wins.
