The sensors embedded in each BurnerPixel use a proprietary capacitive sensor geometry that is able to detect both metallic and organics materials on the cooking surface. HotSpot uses the data from these sensors to detect the presence and position of pots, pans, and food so that cooking regions can be automatically generated for the user to control.

Furthermore, the sensors record detailed data about the characteristics of what is being cooked and user’s cooking habits. HotSpot is using this data to enhance the user experience by creating premium features such as EvenCooking which uses the sensors to detect the thickness profiles of meats so that the temperatures of the BurnerPixels can be adjusted to create a heating gradient. This heating gradient compensates for meats of uneven thickness to ensure they are evenly cooked throughout helping both professionals and amateurs avoid under or over cooking their meals.
