Every business runs on know-how. In industrial manufacturing, it is called “tribal knowledge:” the awareness of how to do work, and do it right. When tribal knowledge is lost, business pay. Every business runs on know-how. In industrial manufacturing, it is called “tribal knowledge:” the awareness of how to do work, and do it right. When tribal knowledge is lost, business pay. Think of the retirement of a valued employee. Or when workflows change due to technology. Companies pay by spending countless hours training, retraining, and writing how-to guides. Manufacturers in particular pay in spoiled product, or “rework,” lost contracts, low employee morale, and even injury to staff. Current methods exist for documenting work and training: Dull, wordy documents hidden away on Sharepoint servers, shelves filled with dusty binders, and endless PowerPoint presentations. There’s a better way.

These guys have industry knowledge, connections and a drive to create something far better than what folks in the industry are used to. Status Quo be damned. If there is a team that will make this happen, this is it.

I watched Trace pitch his idea a few months ago in Cedar Falls, where they won their debut Pitch & Grow competition. I then watched him pitch the business twice more, each time learning and improving. Total time from first pitch to third was about three months, in three different cities. Trace's relentless focus is what made me want him in our first cohort, and that decision has been vindicated: Trace and Kenny have made amazing progress in the first seven weeks of the program, signing up beta customers, meeting with (and impressing) our mentors, and winning funding from several sources already.

The problem they solve is real, and industry-wide. Their background and experience fit perfectly. Their attitudes and focus are exceptional. These guys have what it takes to build an incredibly successful company!

Strong team, great idea, and a relentless pursuit of the best possible solution are some of the things that set HowFactory apart from the crowd. Some of the most coachable entrepreneurs in the Iowa Startup Accelerator, Kenny and Trace have been giving everything they have to create an amazing company. Though they started targeting industrial manufacturing business, they have quickly realized most industries struggle with process documentation and management.

Huge fan of what these folks are creating and I think continuing to connect with the right resources will prove to scale this business is significant ways.
