We create a series of high-quality GIS based maps related to the urban heat vulnerability map which are constructed using 3 main indices namely: Exposure Index (heat distribution), Sensitivity Index (density of vulnerable population) and Adaptive Capacity Index (heat resilient infrastructures). They are obtained mainly from processing and spatial-analysis of open-data coupled with data obtained from earth observing satellites from space. We have adapted a framework that is recommended by the IPCC for assessing the heat vulnerability for a city. This framework enables us to integrate relevant data which are having a direct impact on heat resilience (proximity to fountains, swimming pool etc.) which gives a more complete overview of the city’s urban conditions related to this heat vulnerability. GIS-based analysis of spatial data from space plays a critical role in this.

NEIGHBOURHOOD CLIMATE ASSESSMENTS: Once the vulnerable urban areas or neighbourhoods have been identified, we can provide consultancy services based on neighbourhood climate assessments on the impacts of using Blue Green and White strategies (implementation of trees, green spaces, water bodies, lighter colour exterior paints for buildings, roads and pavements) for the mitigation of extreme heat in the concerned areas. This assessment is done based on results obtained from our urban microclimate simulations which is done using our powerful the simulation tool called SOLENE-microclimat, we assess the physical benefits of a particular developmental strategy upon the given urban neighbourhood based on outdoor comfort of urban citizens. We can advice urban stakeholders on how to use the above mentioned strategy to mitigate extreme heat on those areas.
