Hyperactive Developments is an immersive content production company with a particular focus on community engagement and active learning with, and for, young people in East London. Over the last 6 months we have been designing and delivering immersive (location specific AR, Social VR, and stand-alone VR) content, training and experiences.

We have a partiuclar learning offering called - THE NEXUS which fuses project-based learning, workshops from five specialist practitioners and authentic work
experiences, supporting six local charities through creation of digital media assets (logos, UI, photography, social media, podcasts, 360 video, AR maps), by young Londoners, aged 15-25, within Olympic Boroughs (Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Hackney).

We will track and formatively assess the development of transferable skills through instantiation of research and frameworks for communication, critical thinking, creative problem solving, creative thinking, collaboration and empathy.

The development of these fusion skills will be supported through a combination of practical workshops, talks and 360 formative feedback from specialist instructors, mentors and peers, to encourage critical reflective practice.

Collaborative, connected, project-based learning in authentic, real-world working contexts will ensure participants are appropriately supported and challenged to develop transferable skills, simultaneously developing creative digital skills which critically engage participants in meaningful cultural activity and production related to personal interests.

Digital Open Badges, conforming to international standards, are to be created and awarded as evidence of competency. Projects will be showcased, celebrating achievements, attended by digital industry delegates.

The project culminates in the production of an open-source toolkit, supporting programme iterations, accredited by HEIs, as part of the East London Framework.

The NEXUS was a finalist of the Culture Mile’s Fusion Prize 2020.

We recently delivered the NEXUS our active immersive learning programme with Newham Youth Engagement and The Rooted Forum, Shadwell and XR VICTORIANA with UCL Special Collections and School 21.

Our VR experience film THE MARTHA STREET EXPERIENCE premiered at the BFI London Film Festival Extended Realities Programme 2020 and was recently awarded the Kaleidoscope Premium VR Awards for best in VR.
