Creative expressions are considered an extra burden in Pakistani educational institutions in contrast to regular formal study curriculum which results in ignorance, lack of awareness and dismissive attitude towards art-forms such as theatre, music, dance, painting or fine-arts.

The above mentioned programs are rather treated as extra-curricular activities (non-academic) in regards to other formal study programs which lead to a state of isolation and rigid educational setups in our society aiming at creating miss-opportunities in terms of creative arts. Therefore, there is a lack of time allotted for growth, cultivation, critical and creative thinking.

Hence, we're currently working on to introduce creative arts as an integral component of the current academic program in schools (both public and private sector) because it helps to develop and achieve confidence and trust, creativity, enhanced critical thinking in other core subjects (math, science, language, literature, etc.) & empower empathy in children and young individuals. In addition, these subjects will play an important role in giving students an informed awareness and exposure to our culture and aesthetics.

At Independent Theatre Pakistan, not only do we provide a platform for theatrical arts, we also carry out an innovative, youth centered creative arts program and ingenious curriculum across the nation focusing on the following core metrics: building trust and confidence; understanding the use of language (non-verbal and verbal); the ability to think critically through improvisation given specific structure; and identifying a character (enhancing leadership). The aim is to create leaders for the future for a more empathetic Pakistan.

We love our multilingual culture and its practices, its norms and their reflection in literature. Our work focus on Pakistani values with a spotlight on creating cross cultural dialogue through means of creative expression.
