Ten households are identified per village, supported to establish ten fish ponds per village. With a total of 10 villages mobilised, 100 ponds will be established.

Each pond has capacity of producing 100 Tilapia fish of 2.0kg every week which gives rise to atleast 20 tons of fish weekly.

The marketing of fish will be done jointly with the fish collected from the villages once every week and transported to the fish processers and fish markets.

Each pond costs atleast $100 to establish but can generate atleast $120 per week which can accumulate to atleast $5760 annually per pond/household. Very few ugandan households have the capacity to raise even $3000 annually. Therefore, over 100 families shall be transformed by the investment.

Additionally, ugandan fresh water bodies including L. Victoria, L.Albert, L.Edward, L.kyoga, have been depleted of tilapia fish and many factories have actually closed due to scarcity of fish supply (refer to uganda new vision publication of Monday July 2...

This project shall therefore reduce the stress imposed on the inland water bodies for the production of fish.

In future, the project intends to establish atleast 500 fishing villages all across the country in order to meet the ever increasing Tilapia fish demand in the country for both local consumption and for processing for export.
