Background:
Many medications like insulin, biologics (used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, multiple sclerosis , etc) are temperature sensitive. Most of them must be kept between 2-8 °C when stored and 2-25 °C when in-use. Otherwise they totally or partly lose their potency.
The cold-chain is well kept until the pharmacy, but after patients receive it and go home there is absolutely no control on it.
Problem:
There is no way of finding out when these meds turn bad. They don’t change colour or consistency. This uncertainty creates stress for users and results in waste every time doubt arises.
Studies show that 93% of patients do not store their medication as recommended by the manufacturer.
Our solution:
Med Angel is an app and a smart sensor that is kept with the medication. It continuously monitors temperature and alerts if it gets critical.
We successfully launched our solution on Android and iOS and seeing good traction.
