Customize IKEA furniture with Scandinavian-designed components
Norse Interiors makes replacement components for customizing IKEA furniture. We are changing the luxury furniture shopping experience by letting customers design bespoke pieces from durable, American-manufactured materials to fit over existing IKEA systems. The process is simple, cost-efficient and sustainable, and the results are personal and elegant.
Our product offer includes doors, top and side panels, for the IKEA Besta cabinets, as well as drawer fronts for the Malm dresser and nightstand. These components are made in sustainable MDF board, which we give a satin sheen paint finish for long-lasting pieces with a luxe feel. We use conversion varnish, which is more durable and slightly more elastic than a lacquer. The MDF is green building compliant, certified to the SFI® (Sustainable Forestry Initiative), which assures that it comes from responsible sources, using wood from forests managed to sustainable forestry standards.
We also make legs, knobs, and pulls which have a universal fit. Recently we partnered with a local woodshop in Brooklyn, to launch premium wood tops for the Besta in Ambrosia Maple. Ambrosia Maple, also known as Ghost Maple, is a type of Maple that has been inhabited by the Ambrosia Beetle, leaving intricate and distinctive contrasting coloration on the wood. This locally sourced lumber, from the Northeast, has a unique brown and gray figure with small holes made by the beetle, which does not negatively affect the final performance of the wood. It was once considered undesirable, but due to a specialty finishing technique, we’re able to turn it into something beautiful, where every piece is unique.
We ship all our products in flat packs, for the customer to assemble. Currently, our market includes the US and Canada. more
