UAE-ICEBERG PROJECT
Overview
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is faced with a challenging water management situation, shared by all the Arabian Peninsula states, considered among the most arid regions worldwide.
The Arabian Peninsula states, i.e. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (referred to together as the GCC states) and Yemen, is home to some of the most water scarce countries in the world, classified as hot desert climates. They lack any access to natural freshwater, endure record drought rates and expect an imminent depletion of groundwater reserves due to overuse.
As such, desalination has become the backbone of almost all GCC states, supplying as much as 99 percent of potable water needs, and representing 57% of global desalination output. The region's heavy reliance on desalination has even exacerbated due to the record high per-capita water use rate within the region. In the UAE, for instance, a resident consumes some 550 liters per day -- a huge strain on state coffers.
Within the UAE, demand for water is set to grow by around 123 percent in Abu Dhabi and by an average north of 100 percent in the remaining six emirates, due to population and economic growth.
This proposed project presents an investment opportunity for designing, building and operating Iceberg Water Sourcing, Refining and Distribution operations.
Our main product would a fresh water extracted from Icebergs floating North of Antarctica.
ICEBERG Water is sourced from unspoilt ice that has naturally disintegrated from the Antarctica ice shelf and travelled up north for up to three years. During the warmer months of the year they reach up to 3000km north of anatartica where they can be captured before they finally melt into the ocean. This makes ICEBERG Water a natural water, only available when nature decides it is ready and at the quantities nature dictates.
National Advisor Bureau Limited is a leading technical consulting firm with strong roots in water and energy consulting and research and development (R&D). The Company is headquartered in Masdar City, Abu-Dhabi.
The Iceberg Harvesting Project depends on sourcing freshwater from Antarctica's floating icebergs, by identifying and imaging floating ice masses for towing by huge tugboats all the way to the coast of Fujairah (UAE). At a specifically-built Fujairah processing plant, a melting, piping and distribution infrastructure will be erected and operated by the Company and its stakeholders.
