At present per hectare consumption of pesticides in India is 0.6 kg/ha. It is estimated as lowest in the world. In India, the total number of pest attacking major crops has increased significantly in last few years (FICCI, 2016). Our proposed product is a bio-pesticide which is quite different from chemical pesticides. Moreover, the product shall be prepared from a weed of no economic value. Secondly, the raw material can be cultivated at bare and non-cultivable lands with very less irrigation water. Thirdly, the product will be cheaper than the existing pesticides and bio-pesticides.
A bottle of pesticide will cost around 250-300 rupees. A bottle of insecticide will also have a comparable price. Since our product can mimic the activity of both pesticide and insecticide it will definitely be cheaper than the conventional pesticide and insecticide. So a farmer buys one product but gets the benefit of two different products at the same time therefore our product will fetch the market very soon. Our product had higher efficiency than other chemical and bio-pesticides which are available at market at present. Our product also has an additional advantage of being non-specific which means that it is not specific to a particular type of pest that means that it can be applied to all types of crops and it will attack most pests and it will provide an all round defense mechanism to our crops.
