Distributed edge intelligence in remote areas with smart cameras
Archangel Imaging was founded in 2016 in Harwell Space Campus, Oxfordshire, to create innovative intelligent payloads for long endurance unmanned systems. We are an ‘edge AI’ app development company.
Satellite image analysis and helicopter search over remote areas are often too expensive or ineffective. That's why smugglers, terrorists, and human traffickers often go by sea - successfully undetected. Furthermore, 'traditional' cloud-based machine vision solutions are impractical as they require extensive communications infrastructure to send everything back to a server farm. The Internet of Things is incomplete at best, broken at worst. It isn’t what we do today for 'search and rescue'; we educate intelligent rescuers and then distribute them. In future we will use AI agents and distribute this intelligence to ‘the edge’.
Our AI-enabled sensor packages for land, sea and air systems can automatically detect targets like oil leaks, sinking vessels and people in the water. HyRIZON, our hyperspectral machine vision payload, was featured at the Dubai's Robotics for Good award earlier this year in a maritime safety demonstration. HyRIZON can not only see the invisible, it can tell you what it is made from. Learning improves with every mission so our scale-up opportunity lies in commercialising these sensor packages and proprietary software to build a global distributed intelligence network.
Hyrizon is a flyable and rapidly deployable, intelligent hyperspectral machine vision payload that uses on-board image processing to recognise and give alerts automatically on target objects that are invisible to the eyes.
Customers can use the tailored machine vision algorithms to detect their target of interests in remote areas. The primary operational scenarios are at sea, for environmental monitoring, patrol for illegal activity and critical infrastructure security, where boats are easily camouflaged and it is impossible to man the ocean 24/7. For example, HyRIZON can help detect leaks, prevent illegal activity (bilge pumping, smuggling & illegal fishing), thanks to real-time detection for prompt action, filling gaps by Automatic Indication System and Vessel Monitoring System for sea vessels, and use advanced hyperspectral cameras along with a spectrometer to detect activity which would otherwise be undetectable in the visible spectrum alone. The primary audience includes oil and gas companies, police, fisheries managers, environmental agencies and security forces.
