Remote monitoring for the next generation of energy companies
AMMP is a digital platform for monitoring and management of off-grid, mini-grid, and grid-edge energy systems. AMMP was originally built as a solution for operating smart renewable mini-grids, serving customers in previously unelectrified rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa. While that remains our core focus, we increasingly also serve operators of renewable/hybrid energy systems for small and medium sized businesses, as well as commercial and industrial users in these markets since there is an increasing change from purely using diesel generators as a backup for the unreliable national grids. Further, along with our customers we have also expanded our presence to South America and Southeast Asia.
The AMMP platform can serve a variety of usage scenarios:
AMMP allows operators of off-grid energy systems to obtain a unified view of real-time asset performance, by integrating a range of vendors and technologies: solar PV, battery systems, and smart metering. This enables operators to efficiently identify issues, avoid costly trips to remote sites, and make the most effective O&M decisions that prolong asset lifetime. In a white paper that analyzed real-world operations, we estimate a potential reduction of operation and maintenance costs of 30%. (www.ammp.io/remote-monitoring-cost-reduction/)
AMMP provides real-time alerting across the entire portfolio, so that the operators are immediately informed of an issue on site and can act to solve this as fast as possible.
AMMP provides performance insights and reporting to management, in order for them to make data-driven decisions about business processes, roll-out and system planning, and procurement. We also work with financiers, to give them the required visibility over their off-grid energy portfolios, enabling them to de-risk their investments.
AMMP enables independent energy service providers and mini-grid utilities to pursue innovative business models with respect to providing clean energy to their end customers. This is facilitated through distribution grid monitoring and consumer smart metering.
The founding team initially built AMMP while at E.ON Off Grid Solutions, where it was used to operate a portfolio of mini-grids in rural Tanzania serving 1,000 households and businesses. Over the years of operation, we have tailored AMMP to serve and mitigate the conditions prevalent in our target markets: poor connectivity, low accessibility, and challenging environmental conditions; while constantly iterat
