The Blue-Pink Center for Women's Health
We are revolutionizing cancer prevention and control among Nigerian women.
My startup offers community-based free cancer education, training on breast self-examination, and breast cancer screening. It offers low-cost, high-quality cervical cancer screening using Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid, and on-the-spot cure using colposcopy+cryotherapy. Women with breast cancer, high-grade cervical lesions, and cervical cancer are offered prompt referral to advanced cancer treatment centers as well as follow-up supportive services usually by our non-profit partner organization, the Women’s Cancer Prevention and Support for African Society. We provide quality, de-identified community cancer data to cancer registries and health ministries for health planning, research, and policymaking.
Breast and cervical cancers are respectively responsible for 16.4% and 14.8% of all cancer-related deaths among Nigerian women, culminating in more than 70,000 deaths per year. This is because women lack access to cancer education and screening that can help them prevent and detect cancers at early stage. Therefore, more than 85% of women with cancer in Nigeria presents at late stages when cure is almost impossible.
We leverage on our unique and innovative 8-pronged client mobilization model to massively mobilize women to benefit from our services in order to reduce the high incidence, morbidity, and deaths associated with breast and other female-specific cancers affecting Nigerian women. One of those newly introduced system is Shero, an Artificial Intelligence chatbot which I co-developed. It offers initial cancer pre-diagnostic evaluation and then help women to book for screening (https://shero.care/).
Our goal is to contribute to reduction of breast and cervical cancer deaths among women in Nigeria by at least 20% within the next 5 years through prevention, early detection, prompt and efficient diagnosis and treatment, as well as adequate supportive services.
