It includes a sensor to detect changes in the intensity of the uterine contractile activity; it transmits a representative signal of these variations through a transmission circuit which is operationally associated with that sensor. The sensor is characterised by the fact that it is a triaxial accelerometer and can be applied to the maternal abdomen by means of an elastic fascia,waistband or adhesive plaster. It is equipped with a device for the measurement of time, suitable for timing the duration and frequency of changes in the intensity of the uterine contractile activity and transmitting a signal through a transmission circuit which is operationally associated with the said device.
It is equipped with a processing unit operationally associated with the said sensor and the said device, which is capable of receiving the corresponding inputs, processing them and turning them into output electrical signals to switch on LED lights of various colours and a buzzer. The processing unit is characterised by the fact that it is an Arduino board, previously programmed and equipped with rechargeable batteries for the power supply; it is connected to a printed electrical circuit. The device is in a plastic box, from which the cable connected to the sensor described above departs. The box is equipped with a switch to power on the device, a button to reset the sensor, three LED lights of various colors -blue, green and red- and a buzzer.
The blue light sets up when the device is switched on and flashes 2 times when the sensor is reset. The green one flashes at any valid contraction (i.e. intensity and duration greater than the predetermined threshold value) and the red one flashes if there are 5 or more valid contractions in 30 minutes.
For a safer use, in case of detection of 5 or more valid contractions in 30 minutes, the buzzer is also activated.
The Device is characterized by compatibility with an IOS and Android system, to record the trend of contractions (intensity and frequency) on a diagram on the gestant's cell phone.The same diagram may also be viewed by the physician or other competent health care professional on his/her cell phone: if the device detects contractions deserving of diagnostic investigation, it will alert both the patient and the physician.
