While I was earning my Masters degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, I was on the Executive Committee of Evacuteer, the City's partner in the City Assisted Evacuation plan. This plan was put in place following Hurricane Katrina to ensure that every New Orleanian and visitor had a way to evacuate the city during an emergency. While on the Executive Committee, I developed a Continuity of Operations program for New Orleans businesses. This program, led by current students in my Masters program, continues to work with small businesses throughout the city to help them understand the need for continuity planning and to guide them through the planning process.
