We build and maintain widgets such as annotatable videos, lessons, dynamic problems, worksheets, calculators, figures, and more to serve as building blocks for all of our content. All of these features come together in our Authoring Suite, which allows for an intuitive, Google Docs-style development of STEM content. We build and maintain widgets such as annotatable videos, lessons, dynamic problems, worksheets, calculators, figures, and more to serve as building blocks for all of our content. All of these features come together in our Authoring Suite, which allows for an intuitive, Google Docs-style development of STEM content. While our authoring team uses these tools to rapidly create our flagship content for educators to use in the classroom, we also expose these same tools directly to teachers to allow them to seamlessly create custom content for their classrooms. When students utilize the platform, a host of small, engaging features keep them fully immersed with the content without requiring external calculators, or even pencil and paper. We do this by building modules that facilitate periodic student quizzing, engagement prompts, heuristically-measured forced pauses, and even an intuitive space for users to use for scratch work. Also, if a student is stuck on a question, they can ask their teacher for help through our fully integrated messaging system. This suite contextualizes the questions students pose by giving teachers the ability to view the question as their students do; essentially creating the experience of looking over a student’s shoulder as they work. This final feature reveals just a small glimpse of Lemma’s greatest asset: our analytic engine. Lemma constantly tracks user activity in order to provide a second-by-second understanding of their students in a non-invasive manner. The system even allows teachers to go back and playback a video recording of student activity if they so choose. This level of tracking is unique to Lemma in that all of our modules and tools are built to seamlessly record user activity and to generate data that is richly annotated for computer consumption. Whether using a Lemma problem or one of their own, educators using the platform gain a better understanding of their efficacy while delivering content to students in a novel and engaging way. Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, we have started to work on AI features such as the automatic awarding of partial-credit based on our continuous tracking.
