I've been a frustrated traveller many times, especially when in a country where I don't speak the language. That's why we are building Localoids.

There is growing demand from travellers for local advice and authentic experiences, but help from locals in your own language is difficult to access. Travellers tend to meet random locals, or use guide books.
Also, many locals struggle to find native speakers to practice languages, and access to skills and knowledge can be limited. For language, there are online resources, but they can be expensive and boring.

On Localoids, travellers and locals can connect around interests (online and in person), exchange culture, and help each other. For example, a local can help a traveller with local advice and authentic experiences, while a traveller can help a local practice their native language, or with their skills and knowledge. It's a win-win.

Our bigger vision is to be the 'go to' service for travellers who want a personalised and authentic travel experience along the journey.
Many businesses can’t personalise offers, while travellers struggle to find the best services and products. There is no real solution for this.

As members have profiles, we know their age, gender, languages, interests, skills and knowledge, where they live, and want to travel. We can then give personalised recommendations for along the travel journey, benefiting travellers and businesses.

We will be running a freemium subscription model, with some similarities to LinkedIn and some dating website models. Affiliate commission will be utilised for recommendations. Sponsored campaigns and merchandise will be a part of our revenue, and data will become valuable once we achieve volume.

To reach our target market (students/millennials), we will test different channels to work out which gives us the lowest cost of acquisition.
We will try referral, PR, social media, content marketing, bloggers, search, offline for both sides.
For travellers, we will look for referrals (parternships) with accommodation providers, travel agents, and inbound transport (Eg Eurostar, BlaBla Car, airlines).
For locals, we'll focus on Universities and other student groups, as well as language schools and businesses.
