Think back to last winter - polar vortex, endless snow. I can say this came as a complete shock to me, after having just moved to Boston from California for school. I was in no way prepared for the seasons. While I was able to find hats, jackets, and scarves that suited my needs, I had the hardest time finding a pair of boots that I liked. I'm sure you're aware of what's out there - nobody wants to wear Sorel boots on a date, and I can't imagine anyone being comfortable wearing Hunter boots throughout their work day. This is where the idea was born for lundí. A brand that represents the merging of the old with the new. We upgrade classic leather pieces through wearable technology, combining the best of both worlds.

Think back to last winter - polar vortex, endless snow. I can say this came as a complete shock to me, after having just moved to Boston from California for school. This is where the idea was born for lundí. A brand that represents the merging of the old with the new. We upgrade classic leather pieces through wearable technology, combining the best of both worlds.

Our first product - the classic lundí boot - solves this problem across three dimensions:

Fashion: we've developed a beautiful leather boot, crafted with the finest materials
- Designer - Aldo contract designer with great eye for creating classic designs with the customer in mind
- Craftsmanship - manufactured in Italy at factory that used to handle Proenza Schouler boot designs
- Quality - leather imported from Italy, waterproofing on inside of the boot to ensure feet & calves stay dry
- Trademark - heel stamp design with lundi TM, increases visibility to potential customers

Hardware: utilizing the brightest tech minds to invent the ideal solution to the heating problem
- Heating – up to 104°F, lightweight electronic components (100g), heat diffusing, soft neotech material
- Battery – 6-7 hours of continuous use, inductive charging (wireless charging when two materials in
proximity) through “boot insert” that enables boots to keep their shape while charging seamlessly
- IP - Utility patent for integrated heating capability in sole of shoe

Software: beautiful, user friendly integration that puts the user in the drivers seat
- iOS application (Android to come)– user friendly, easy to use and set up, communicates via Bluetooth 4.0,
collects data (via thermostat sensor in boot) and controls temperature based on user input
- Custom control – user sets boots to the nearest degree, ability to control each shoe separately or as one
(many people have different foot sizes – larger foot tends to get colder than the smaller foot)

Jodi Gernon Co-Founder at XYZABC

As Director of the Rock Center at HBS, I have come to know Katie Lefkowitz and her new venture, Lundi quite well. Katie, is part of our exclusive Rock Accelerator program and has impressed not only me but our Entrepreneurs in Residence & notable venture capitalists in the Boston area, including Katie Rae, Jeff Bussgang, Michael Skok and more.

Katie has demonstrated a unique vision around incorporating the Internet of Things into fashion in a very novel way through her foot warmer technology. She has also been extremely diligent & persistent in her approach to testing her idea from both a customer interest & a technology applicability.
Her vision goes beyond just one product and she has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to overcome setbacks and has also adopted the lean startup methodology to quickly learn and apply that learning to refining her product. She is open to feedback & guidance & would make an excellent & unique addition to your program.

Thomas Eisenmann Professor at Harvard Business School

In my role as professor at Harvard Business School, where I teach entrepreneurship and serve as faculty co-chair of the HBS Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, I've been coaching Katie Lefkowitz over the past year as she's created Lundi. Most recently, I've worked with Katie in the context of the Rock Accelerator. To a select group of HBS student startups, the Accelerator provides a small grant to fund experimentation along with lots of mentoring. Lundi was one of eleven teams selected for the Accelerator from an original pool of about sixty teams.

Based on my interactions with Katie in the Rock Accelerator, she has the makings of a terrific entrepreneur -- one who'd take full advantage of Project Entrepreneur opportunity and contribute effectively and generously to her program peers in whatever ways she could. Katie is creative, smart and scrappy; she's passionate about her venture and committed to testing her assumptions in a lean manner. Reminds me a lot of Jenn and Jenny ;)
