Matter is an Australian leader in the sustainable technology industry. We empower people and communities to track, manage and reduce their waste footprint.

Using real-time and verified data, our patented smart sensor technology and user Apps provide Smart Cities, councils, businesses and homes with the information to minimise landfill and costs, improve recycling and enable better choices when it comes to waste.

Our unique sensor technology is the first product in Australia, and perhaps the world, available at a size and cost to roll out across entire communities. Not just public bins, all bins – waste-sensing at scale.

Linked to our intuitive user software, our waste management insights and feedback loops have the capacity to remove the burden of waste entirely.

The premise of our business case is that smart waste sensors ultimately reduce landfill. The data that is generated in a gamified feedback loop via the household residents' app, combined with education programs and incentives (for example, a kickback on your rates when you are 'x' litres below the council benchmark), leads to compound behaviour change. This solution provides the following benefits to the council:

Financial benefits: Enabling residents to take personal waste responsibility can 'nudge' behaviour change, leading to a reduction in landfill, potentially saving the council millions of dollars in waste disposal costs, currently ~$250 / tonne.

Environmental benefits: Extending the lifespan of landfill sites, promoting recycling and reducing carbon from waste has a positive impact on the environment.

Improved Cost Control: Data-driven insights into waste collections enable improved internal cost control and vendor contract management.

Smart-Billing: Laying the infrastructure that enables the City to move towards incentivised billing schemes like 'user pays'.

Education benefits: Enabling tailored and targeted digital education campaigns based on individual household behaviours.

Policy Alignment: Alignment with National and State Waste Policy objectives including landfill reduction targets and improved resource recovery.

Matter has finished its first council trials and the results are very encouraging. We would love XTC to help put this technology on a pedestal and join us in defining a new era of waste intelligence and waste responsibility.

A future where #wastematters.
