NowSponsor is a platform that brings athletes and brands together for the purpose of creating sponsorship opportunities.
Athletes have a typically short sporting career and during this period need to focus heavily on training and practice. This leaves little time for a full education, or for exposure to the business world. At one end of the scale, many athletes are funded via charities (such as the Mary Peters Trust), or government handouts/scholarships, however this funding is often minimal and does not go far enough. At the other end of the scale, perhaps in well-known sports teams, the individual athletes will get paid a decent wage, but once again, this is time-limited to perhaps 5-7 years, after which their contract ends and they have to face the reality of finding a job (with no experience and limited education).

At either end of the scale and everywhere in between, athletes have a profile and a following. They also need to boost their financial status to help fund their sport...

They also need to boost their financial status to help fund their sporting careers, support their families, and generally live. Sponsorships are vital to athletes, but so many struggle to engage with private business in order to create the relationships needed to secure sponsorship.Businesses love to engage with sport. The appeal of associating your brand with an athlete or a team is obvious. However, less obvious is knowing how to reach the right athlete or team. How do you add in a level of process to ensure you are spending marketing budget in the right places, on the right teams. The answer currently is simple - you don't. Businesses typically sponsor athletes that are known to them, or from a team they already support. There is no process, therefore meaning money is often directed sporadically. Businesses do not currently have the full picture when it comes to sponsorship within sport.

Now Sponsor works with athletes across a wide range of public profile and ability, from grass roots, right up to professional. Athletes upload a profile of themselves onto the platform. Information captured will include the sport they play, the team they play for, the town/city/region they are from, social media following, type of sponsorship deals they would be interested in, and type of activity they would carry out in exchange for sponsorship (i.e. public appearances, events, social media posts/endorsements etc).
