Ocra is a mobile wallet for micropayments aimed at digitising all little cash in Egypt by 2030. We basically help people pay for public transportation using their smartphones. We also help drivers collect their fees cashlessly, and help public transportation agencies go digital.
In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have to think of those most vulnerable amongst us. That is why we are launching a Business Solidarity Initiative to help riders and drivers of microbuses make it through the tough times.
COVID-19 survives on banknotes for a complete day, and on coins for 3 days. That is compared to just 10 minutes on our skin. Cash is the only payment method on microbuses.
Microbuses are run as small businesses, and their drivers are workers of the gig economy, with no stable employment or source of income. Social Distancing Policies force them to seek donations, or crime.
