The big idea is Orp makes cyclists (or pedestrians) more visible by making them more hearable.

This bigger idea is that the Orp hardware would also include a Bluetooth Low Energy emitter. This emitter, in each Orp device, sends out a signal that can be picked up by smart phones, (specifically iPhone 4s) and newer. When a cyclist or runner gets within a specified distance from the receiver {the smart phone) the Phone provides an audible and visual warning to the driver. The warned driver can then check their surroundings/ mirrors and find a cyclist or pedestrian approaching (likely on their right in left hand drive countries).

This technology will also have a home in our next product, the Runners Orp. All the great light and sound hardware reconfigured for the runner /pedestrian. Horn actuation will still be under thumb.



Additionally smart signage at intersections could warn drivers ( in the right lane) of the presence of cyclists or pedestrians.

The Smart phone just needs an App that can run in the background. We have a proof of concept of this App. We think this is a super smart way to get the early warning system into the car no matter what age or era the car is as almost everyone has a smartphone or will soon!

We know we can design the hardware to limit the signal strength and thus determine the distance from emitter ( cyclist/ pedestrian) to receiver (smart phone in car) . Of course, we do know the emitter's signal is spherical but in left hand drive countries a driver knows a cyclist or pedestrian is likely on the right.
