Pahoola’s mission is to educate patients and caregivers to improve the quality of care and reduce hospital readmission.

As the US healthcare market shifts from fee-based to outcome-based compensation, more decisions are made based on hospital metrics for patient satisfaction, quality of care and hospital readmissions.

Too many patients are readmitted to emergency rooms within 30 days of hospital discharge, resulting in millions of unhappy patients and >$8 billion annually in avoidable healthcare costs. Pahoola directly addresses this large and growing problem through improved patient education.

Pahoola meets this immediate market need by providing engaging, high-quality, on-demand educational video content. The content will be developed and reviewed by medical experts, putting the right information in the hands of patients at the right time on any device.

Business revenues will be generated through paid media, sponsorship fees and license fees from healthcare providers, drug companies and other medical suppliers. Once the market position in post-discharge education is established, Pahoola will expand to education for chronic conditions and prevention of other costly hospital admissions.

Our MVP (currently available at Pahoola.com) was launched in March 2017 with educational videos on tonsillectomy, a commonly-performed outpatient procedure (500,000 surgeries annually, 7.8% readmission rate). We worked closely with Dr. Brian Nussenbaum at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital and Dr. Robert O’Bert, ENT at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis to review the video content and distribute to patients.

The MVP demonstrated that physicians would recommend Pahoola videos and that patients would engage with the content. On average, patients watched 82% of the 4 minute videos, which far exceeds industry standards for video content.

Our plan over the next 2-3 years is to build out a library of videos that cover the top 80 hospital procedures, which represent over 80 million procedures per year. This will require approximately 400 total videos. The video content will be distributed through the Pahoola website, iOS/Android mobile apps and through media-API connection with other healthcare software apps.
