Pillsy is a digital medication assistant that helps with medication management by carefully tracking adherence with a smart pill bottle and engaging with the medication user about their condition, including the effects of their medications. This data can be synced to the person's care team, including their doctor and family. Some younger people may be more likely share truthful information with Pillsy. This, combined with a log of their actual adherence data, helps behavioral health professionals to get a more accurate picture of what's going on.
At a large scale, data from Pillsy will be used to improve the general knowledge about effectiveness of different types of medications with different types of children. This data could be used to create more effective, evidence-based treatment pathways than today's fragmented system of doctors is able to provide.
Research shows that adherence to behavioral health medications is critical. For example, medication adherence to anti-psychotics is the #1 predictor of successful treatment of schizophrenia. However, most treatment today provides schizophrenics with no support for daily adherences. Pillsy provides a cost-effective, scalable option for providing consistent daily support in-between engagements with a person's care team.
We currently have behavioral health studies in progress or getting kicked off at the VA, Vanderbilt Medical Center and others. In addition, we have additional pilots in other applications that impact children, such as cancer and transplant immunosuppressant medications.
Pillsy is especially suitable for children, who generally enjoy using technology and also lack the routine and organizational skills that have been developed by (some) older adults.
Pillsy provides game changing technology and a platform that will revolutionize medical care by helping patients remember to take their medicine or pregnant women take their vitamins. Pillsy offers reassurance to people with diminished capacity from illness, busy people, caregivers, relatives and the health care system helping people. Its connected app is best in class and offers analytics that can improve health care medication system compliance and other valuable insights.
While I've had the pleasure of knowing Chuks since he started considering his move to Seattle, I'm particularly excited about the collective experience of the team, with Jeff's leadership and a great combination of entrepreneurial and engineering expertise. They have the building blocks of a great connected-device startup, and I feel could both contribute to and benefit from an accelerator like Techstars.
I am an advisor to Pillsy with a professional background in sponsoring clinical trials for supplements and APIs and have consulted a number of people with experience in the medical device, animal health and clinical trial areas, and believe that there is significant untapped demand for a medication adherence platform like the one Pillsy is developing. I am not aware of any current platform solution to the issue of medication adherence and I think as an early mover, Pillsy will be an attractive investment candidate.
I have known Chuks since I first came to Seattle in 2012. He's always been present at tech meetups around town, and is always diving in to try a new technology or just meet other entrepreneurs in the community. Chuks is a very talented and passionate engineer, and is really comes through when he shows you any product he is working on. I was very impressed when I first saw a demo of Pillsy from him and Jeff. They had a working prototype that included hardware with Bluetooth and a native app, which is really quite a feat. I totally believe in any company that Chuks is a part of.
Jeff Lebrun has worked in and around my business as a consultant. Jeff brings insightful perspective and sound strategy to marketing and sales processes. His experience with online marketing has helped shape who we are as a company. In addition, Jeff's customer facing skills with financial analysis and relationship management helped our company close a recent big sale with a Fortune 500 customer. I highly recommend Jeff.
At Oriole Animal Health, we help bring to market novel products to improve the health and well-being of animals. We’re led by former C-suite executives from leading animal health companies like Merial and Zoetis.
Studies show that people give dogs and cats only about half the medication that vets prescribe. We can prevent lots of pain and suffering just by reminding pet owners to give the right meds at the right time. Pillsy is a great solution to the challenge of improving adherence in pet health.
Pillsy was designed with all of the customers firmly in mind. For pet owners, the app is attractive and user-friendly. Long battery life eases consumer use: no recharging, no plugs, no cables. The easy-to-open cap works for both vets and manufacturers: it’s adapted to existing packaging.
At Oriole, we're enthusiastic about launching Pillsy in pet health. Pillsy adds value for everyone in the supply chain: manufacturers, distributors, vets, pet owners, and—most importantly—dogs and cats.
In the six years that I've known Jeff he has proven to be one of the more adept entrepreneurs that I have encountered. He not only understand the importance of spending time with prospective customers, attracting talent, and crafting the right culture, but also has a track record of success. The Pillsy team is a perfect example. This is a team of operators that is tackling a problem that impacts millions of people. I am excited to see what they come up with, and am confident that Pillsy will make a valuable addition to the Techstars family.
Prescription drugs are the number one utilized method of treating disease in the United States, and we rely largely on patients to independently remember how and when to take their medication. A device such as Pillsy that provides simple, integrated reminders to patients, especially those with complex medication regimens, could significantly increase medication adherence. With the 'history' function providers, such as doctors and pharmacists, could have real feedback as to how often doses are missed and develop mitigation strategies to help maximize a patients drug therapy plan. There is undoubtedly a need for a better way for patients to keep track of there medications. As pharmacist I see patients every day that would benefit from this product, and look forward to the day I could offer it to them.
Jeff has the best strategic vision of anyone I've ever met. If you discuss a business model with him he can immediately pick it apart and re-frame it in terms of its key strengths and risks with an uncanny ease. He's everyone's go-to contact for vetting startup ideas, so when he finds a venture worthy of his time you KNOW he's on to something big.
I had the opportunity to collaborate with Jeff on my SaaS company and the company continues to reap the benefits of the changes he implemented: we widened the mouth of our sales funnel while reducing churn and somehow managed to reduce our marketing spend in the process. Needless to say I hope we find an opportunity to work together again.
Seattle is lucky to have landed an entrepreneur as gifted as Jeff. Pillsy will be the first of many success stories he brings your city.
David has always been very bright and driven. The product team formed for Pillsy all have the same drive to succeed. The potential analytics associated with Pillsy can improve behavioral patterns around taking medication.
Jeff is a consummate entrepreneur...not at all spooked by the early challenges of discovering market fit, connecting with first customer and driving the minutia that keeps an early stage company going. He is intelligent, thoughtful and selfless. What I like most about Jeff most is his curiosity about new technology and business models. He's a total rockstar and someone I would invest in.
Pillsy is tackling medication adherence with an innovation solution. Their product leverages mobile phones to help patients and their loved ones make sure that medications are being taken. They've got the right talent on board to take on the challenge in this huge opportunity.
I have known Chuks and personally supported previous products he has worked on. I am very passionate about the problem Pillsy is aiming to solve. My wife has issues with remembering to take a myriad of medication and my mother-in-law is a doctor with tons of patients that tend to forget (or worse, lie about taking them). A product is only as good as the team behind it, and knowing Chuks is a part of this makes me all the more confident they will succeed.
I have known Chuks who is one of the founders before he moved to Seattle to become a serial entrepreneur. He thoughtfully made a decision to move to Seattle to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. I admire his perserverance to find business and consumer problems to solve. His latest venture is highly needed in the market. I believe this company would be a terrific Tech Stars company!
