ES Bikes has designed a light weight (7Kg) carbon fibre folding bicycle. It's a road bike that folds and can be be quickly and easily folded so suiting an urban environment so it can be stored when not in use (and it folds down to about 24 by 30 by 6 inches which is which is very compact). It comes in single speed and geared version (retailing at about £2,000 and £2,600 respectively with a 40%+ margin). It uses standard parts for seat post, handle bars, gears and disc brakes and 451 wheels. This also means it will stop in wet conditions. The frame is also a monocoque so stable at higher speeds.

An NFC tag will be embedded in the final carbon fibre weave allowing the bike to be tracked using a simple app (both Android and iOS 11+ can be supported). The app will allow a user to register the bike and report it stolen. The app can also check any bike to see if its stolen (and report the location) so it could also be distributed to law enforcement. The tag can not be removed damaging the structural integrity of the bike.

In future we wish to develop a seat post (also suitable for cycle after markets) incorporating our "6th sense" technology which will alert vehicles with V2X technology that the bike is nearby.

The idea is to initially launch via Kickstarter and we are in discussion with an independent retailer in London who can showcase for us. Sales will be through eCommerce and when volume sales are reached then we'll look at retail distribution.

Both the front and rear folding mechanisms are potentially unique IP and can be protected. This could lead to licensing in future.

Though the bike is suitable for the urban cyclist who wants a high-end bike, as the bike is carbon fibre and aircraft grade aluminium, we also see a market in the luxury yacht/boat arena as the bike won't rust in salt water conditions so could be stored on-board and utilised to get around the marina or when on dry land.
