Not only do they have a fantastic idea, but Khristine and Will have really put in the time to analyze the market and talk face to face with their customers through extensive customer discovery. They know how to define their customers and they know how their product is going to meet a big need. They have also worked with many mentors in the Ag industry to work out a business model that can work. These two founders are passionate and really listen to their customers and mentors. I'm excited to watch this business grow and become the biggest name in online farmers markets.
ProduceRun is a brilliant concept! Will and Khristine used their personal experiences related to the problem of connecting high quality food producers with local consumers. They are extending and virtualizing the farmers market business model. These entrepreneurs are pioneering and rapidly evolving their resources and market!
I applaud Khristine and William for developing this! Produce Run is an innovative and forward thinking approach to shopping for produce (and other products from small farms). Grocery stores are spending millions trying to connect consumers to the farmer through in store signage and story telling. Produce Run literally connects people directly to the farmer. This gives consumers peace of mind knowing where there food comes from and the farmer earning up to 4 times the revenue it would if it would go through traditional food distribution. It's a real win/win. This will revolutionize how CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture) and Farmers Markets function as well as challenging the brick and mortar approach to fresh food sales. Consumers are trending toward natural, sustainable agriculture, chemical free food for their family, and demanding fair working conditions on the farm...Produce Run sets a new bar for obtaining fresh local food through sustainable business practices.
With Iowa Startup Accelerator being located in the agricultural heartland of the US, we were looking for a unique idea that could have a big impact on food production. We found that big idea in Will and Khristine of ProduceRun of Melbourne, Australia! They're looking to take advantage of Americans' rising interest in knowing where their food comes from, how it was produced, and even knowing the farmer directly. They also tackle a big problem for small farmers, who want an easy way to get their products online and capture some of the margin they give up to distributors and grocers. I think of it like "Etsy for agriculture": at first blush it might not seem like a huge idea, but it truly could be world-changing.
Will and Khristine are smart, passionate and driven, and have already built a fantastic mentor team to help them take on the project. Their idea is massive. Their passion is genuine. They've built the right team. This is the kind of startup that can disrupt an industry.
Will and Khristine are hard working, tenacious entrepreneurs. Both have had successful startups in the past and are bring that experience to Produce Run. With a growing number of farmer's markets throughout the country, this seasonal phenomenon can benefit from an extended season if there were tools to help them come online. The numbers are staggering and with the right resources, I expect Produce Run can become the clear frontrunner for online farmers markets.
