In South East Asia, where most people live and travel, motorbikes dominate transportation. In addition, motorbikes emit more greenhouse gas emissions per person than cars. People in SEA are increasingly aware of this but electrification of this major segment of transportation is non-existent. The barriers are the same as for adoption of any electric vehicle - high upfront cost, low range, unreliable charging infrastructure and long charging times. But these barriers are maintained by the existing value chain, built specifically for petrol motorbikes, with multiple entities fighting for margins - manufacturers, retailers and petrol stations. Reit EV uniquely combines retailing and “refuelling” to break all the barriers for adoption at once. We sell the electric motorbikes for cheaper, provide a reliable charging infrastructure and instant “refuelling” and offer lower running costs. We sell the electric motorbikes without retailer mark-up, which means our upfront price is 30% low...
We sell the electric motorbikes without retailer mark-up, which means our upfront price is 30% lower. But we combine sales with a mileage plan with up to 30% lower price per km than petrol. The core part of the business is to own and operate battery swapping stations for instant exchange of batteries. To combine electrical & mechanical design and engineering, software framework and applications, regulatory compliance, ergonomics and overall seamlessness for the customer while keeping the cost at a fraction of our competition is our expertise. With this reliable charging infrastructure, we provide the full suite needed for comfortably owning an electric motorbike under a single roof. We start from 100,000 motorbikes in Singapore, move to 13 million motorbikes in Malaysia and then the 400 million bikes in South East Asia. This means, we start from a 60 million SGD annual refuelling market in Singapore to 2.1 billion SGD market in Malaysia to the 200 billion SGD market of South East Asia. My co-founder, Rosti and I have been working on batteries for the last 6 years. This is the second company that we are starting up together. We understand the economics, trends and technical aspects in the energy storage space really well and have the scientific and stat-up experience to back that up. In conclusion, Reit EV can enable mass electrification in South East Asia. We are targeting the most critical barriers for consumers to adopt electric vehicles - focussing on the price and charging infrastructure. So, with little investment we can have a great business and tremendous positive impact.
