Our Swellmix range of micro-polymers are designed to fill unwanted gaps in well equipment, cements and the formation rock, fully blocking permeability and preventing the unwanted flow of subsurface fluids.

We do this by pumping a large number of tiny grains into the target area. These grains are designed to clog, then react with specific fluids, either wellborn/formation or applied from surface that they then absorb and expand (from 20-400 times their original size).
This provides an impermeable barrier that can initially get through small flow paths and then fill practically any size of void. Testing by RGU found that the materials gave a 100% reduction in permeability in each scenario.

There are a number of applications for the solutions:
Well integrity - Annular cement repair (to prevent sustained casing pressure).
Wellhead & valve seal repair (injected with high pressure grease and packing material).
Repair of being casing leak (such as by accidental fracturing): either as a remedially pumped solution or by leaving material dormant during installation.
Formation zone isolation: to prevent infill of material while drilling, and to control water production where necessary.
Control line isolation (internal & external).
Plug & abandonment:
Protecting cements & resins from reservoir fluid.
Providing flexible layer to reduce impact on future subsurface movement on cements/resins.
Sealing behind tubing/casing, filling micro-annuli.
Decommissioning: isolation of process systems & pipework to reduce cost of platform decom while offshore, and reduce risk to environment during platform transportation.
